All that is gold does not glitter,
Not all those who wander are lost;
The old that is strong does not wither,
Deep roots are not reached by the frost.
From the ashes a fire shall be woken,
A light from the shadows shall spring;
Renewed shall be blade that was broken,
The crownless again shall be king. - J.R.R Tolkien

Sometimes what I write in this blog will be well articulated, grammatically correct essays that serve as good social commentary on current issues. Most of the time, however, I'm busy and am not as diligent about proofreading or properly expressing thoughts as one should be when presenting one's writing to others. I apologize for anything you may read that seems worse than a rough draft, or appears to be a random disconnected thought. "Them's the breaks."

Back to School... ministry continues

I have 250 pages to read about Robespierre, 30 words in Ancient Hebrew to memorize (along with the "alef-bet"), along with plenty of reading up in Nutrition, and "Mathematics of Social Choice" all by Monday, gee... I must be in school again. This time with a twist, you see I'm now attending Florida INTERNATIONAL University, which would explain why my roommates are Peruvian and Puerto Rican and the friends who hang out at our appartment are Kuwaiti, Italian, French... and the list goes on, a combination such as this can only be found in Miami!

I am reassured that in the coming days I may have some extra time to finish my homework, unfortunately this "extra time" will be due to the possibility of Hurricane Ike hitting around Tuesday. My roommates and I are taking inventory of our hurricane supplies and looking into boarding our windows (we have one large glass sliding door in the living room).

Since wrapping up my year as a Young Adult Volunteer with the PC(USA) I have been busy working on a video of photos and video clips from throughout the year, but with school back in session I haven't been able to get to the final touches, plus I have some video that's not quite loading right. My goal is to have that done by the end of September. The only thing on my Christmas list this year is a plane ticket to Walla Walla for Christmas break so I can come visit for a couple weeks, and hopefully during that time I'll be able to share my story of what I've been up to all year. I can't tell you how homesick I've been, Florida is nice, and it's cool being able to visit my parents a little more often, but this deffinitely isn't home. It's very weird going back to school as a Junior (well FIU hasn't processed all my transfer credit yet so who knows what I am!) when all my friends are headed back for their Senior year, when Florida doesn't have any seasons (except for "wet"and "dry") I feel like I've just had a REALLY long summer break. Once I find a part time job (PLEASE be praying for that!) I hope to be able to schedule at least an afternoon or two at Sweet Home so that I can continue my work with the children there, I haven't seen them in about a month now and I miss them quite a bit.

Love in Christ,
Maggie
